Fáilte ar ais. Tá súil againn go raibh sos deas agus slán ag gach duine. Bhí roinnt mhaith páistí (agus tuismitheoirí dar ndóigh!) gnóthach le linn an bhriseadh le comórtais Chluichí Pobal agus Feis Shligigh ach go háirithe. Ard-mholadh dóibh siúd ar fad a ghlac páirt agus comhghairdeas leo siúd a bhain duaiseanna nó corn amach. Comghairdeas le R3 agus Múinteoir Sinéad a bhuaigh an comórtas Bhanna Feadóga. Moladh speisialta do Seán (Naíonáin Shinsir) a bhuaigh Gradam i gcomórtas Ealaíne Texaco agus a gheobhaidh a dhuais i mBaile Átha Cliath an mhí seo chugainn,
Welcome back. We hope everyone had a nice and safe break. Many children (and parents of course!) were busy during the break with Community Games and Feis Shligigh competitions in particular. Well done to all who took part and congratulations to those who won prizes or trophies. Congratulations also to Rang 3 and Múinteoir Sinéad who won the Tin Whistle Band trophy. Special mention to Seán (Naíonáin Shinsir) who won a Merit Award in the Texaco Art competition and will receive his prize in Dublin next month. Congratulations!.

CÓR NÁISIÚNTA na nÓG/NATIONAL CHILDRENS CHOIR
Comhghairdeas lena páistí ó Ranganna 5 agus 6 a ghlac páirt i gceolchoirm na scoileanna roimh na Cásca in Ardeaglais Naomh Mel i Longfort,m. Bhí an-obair curtha isteach acu, faoi stiúr Mtr. Liz, Mtr. Dara agus Mtr. Gráinne, le repertoire de 15 amhráin le foghlaim acu! Bhí an ceolchoirm ar fheabhas! Nasc don léiriú thíos.
Congrats to the children from Ranganna 5 and 6 who took part in the schools’ concert before Easter in St. Mel’s Cathedral in Longford. They put in a lot of work, under the direction of Mtr. Liz, Mtr. Dara and Mtr. Gráinne, with a repertoire of 15 songs for them to learn!   • Beidh an scoil dúnta ar an Aoine 30 Bealtaine agus an Luan 2 Meitheamh (Saoire Poiblí).
  • Beidh an scoil ag dúnadh ag 12.00 ar an AOINE an 27 Meitheamh do laethanta saoire an tSamhraidh.

  • The school will be closed on Monday 5th May (Public holiday)

CÉAD CHOMAOINEACH/FIRST COMMUNION, 10/5/2025
Déanfaidh páistí ó Rang 2 a gcéad Chomaoineach Naofa Dé Sathairn, 10 Bealtaine, ag 1.30 i.n. i Séipéal Nazarat. Beidh grianghraif agus sólaistí ar fáil dóibh féin agus dá dteaghlaigh ina dhiaidh sin sa scoil, agus beidh cabhair ó CAIRDE/tuismitheoirí ag teastáil uainn chun bia a ullmhú agus cabhrú ar an lá, srl. Tuilleadh sonraí le teacht.
Children from Rang 2 will make their first Holy Communion on Saturday, May 10th, at 1.30 pm in the Nazareth Chapel. There will be photographs and refreshments for them and their families afterwards in the school, and we will need volunteers from CAIRDE/parents to prepare food and help on the day, etc. More details to follow.

TRIALACHA CAIGHDEÁNAITHE/STANDARDISED TESTING
Beidh na páistí (ó Rang 1 ar aghaidh) ag déanamh na dtástálacha caighdeánaithe sna seachtainí amach romhainn (go dtí 14ú Meitheamh) sa Ghaeilge, i mBéarla, i Mata agus i Litriú. Chabhródh tinreamh iomlán i rith an tréimhse seo chun a chinntiú nach gcaileann do pháiste amach ar na scrúdaithe. Níl i dtástálacha caighdeánaithe ach ceann amháin den iliomad uirlisí a úsáideann múinteoirí chun an próiseas teagaisc agus foghlama a threorú. Féadfaidh torthaí na dtástálacha a bheith éagsúil ó bhliain go bliain do dhaltaí aonair. Is féidir leis na torthaí cabhrú le múinteoirí réimsí den churaclam agus foghlaim teanga a aithint ina dteastaíonn tacaíocht bhreise ó gach dalta agus tacaíocht níos saincheaptha a sholáthar do dhaltaí aonair. Is léiriú roghbhlúire atá i gceist le tástáil chaighdeánaithe amháin agus níor cheart torthaí a úsáid ina n-aonar.

Cumasaíonn an measúnú teagasc agus foghlaim éifeachtach. Áirítear leis seo luacháil rialta a dhéanamh ar obair daltaí agus torthaí a chur in iúl go tréimhsiúil do dhaltaí agus do thuismitheoirí. Cuideoidh gach cineál measúnaithe, lena náirítear tástáil chaighdeánaithe, le múinteoirí a chinntiú go ndéantar cláir foghlama sa litearthacht agus san uimhearthacht a chur in oiriúint chun freastal ar riachtanais daltaí aonair agus ar riachtanais ghrúpaí ranga. Moltar do scoileanna modhanna measúnaithe éagsúla a úsáid d’fhonn léiriú a thiomsú le himeacht ama ar dhul chun cinn foghlama dalta ar fud an churaclaim. Is modh tábhachtach é tástáil chaighdeánaithe a úsáidtear chun uirlisí measúnaithe eile a úsáideann múinteoirí a chomhlánú, agus níor ghá go mbeadh sin níos tábhachtaí ná modhanna eile measúnaithe.

Tá faisnéis ó thástáil chaighdeánaithe tábhachtach i bhfianaise ról ríthábhachtach na litearthachta (Béarla/Gaeilge) agus uimhearthacht maidir le cur ar chumas leanaí rochtain a fháil ar an gcuraclam iomlán. Tacaíonn tástálacha caighdeánaithe le tagarmharcáil a dhéanamh ar fheidhmíocht dalta aonair i gcoinne noirm náisiúnta agus beidh na sonraí ó 2022 tábhachtach mar go dtacóidh siad le cinnteoireacht faoi theagasc agus foghlaim don scoilbhliain atá le teacht ar leibhéal an ranga agus na scoile uile. Arís, is léiriú roghbhlúire atá i gceist le tástáil chaighdeánaithe amháin agus níor cheart torthaí a úsáid ina n-aonar. Cuirfidh múinteoirí na torthaí in iúl ar an ngnáthbhealach (Tuairisc Scoile) ach féadfaidh siad teagmháil a dhéanamh go díreach le tuismitheoirí i gcás torthaí gan choinne nó i bhfad níos ísle.

The children (from Rang 1 up) will be taking the standardised tests in the coming weeks in Gaeilge, English, Maths and Spellings, finishing by June 14h. Full attendance during this period would help to ensure that your child does not miss out on the exams. Standardised tests are just one of many tools teachers use to inform the teaching and learning process. Test results may vary from year to year for individual pupils. The results can help teachers to identify areas of the curriculum and language learning where all pupils need additional support and to provide more bespoke support for individual pupils. The results of any one standardised test provide a snapshot in time and should not be used in isolation.

Assessment is an enabler of effective teaching and learning. This includes regularly evaluating pupils’ work and periodically reporting results to pupils and parents. All forms of assessment, including standardised tests, help teachers to ensure that programmes of learning in literacy and numeracy are tailored to meet the needs of individual pupils/class groups. Schools are advised to use a variety of assessment methods to build a picture over time of a pupil’s learning progress across the curriculum. Standardised testing in literacy (English/Gaeilge) and numeracy is an important method used to complement other assessment tools used by teachers, although not necessarily more important than other assessment types.

Information from standardised testing is important given the vital role of literacy (English/Gaeilge) and numeracy in enabling children to access the full curriculum. Standardised tests support the benchmarking of individual pupil’s performance against national norms and data from 2022 will be helpful for decision making about teaching and learning for the coming school year at class and whole-school level. Again, results of any one standardised test provide a snapshot in time and should not be used in isolation. Teachers will communicate the results in the usual way (School report) but may contact parents directly in the case of unexpected or significantly lower results.
