Stair na Scoile – School History

Bunaíodh Gaelscoil Chnoc na Ré i 1996 agus lonaíodh go sealadach í sa Halla Preispitéireach i Sráid na Cille go dtí Mí Meán Fómhair 1998 nuair a aistríodh í go foirgnimh réamh-thógtha ar shuíomh Club C.L.G. Naomh Mhuire i mBaile Uí Dhúgáin. Fairsingíodh foirgneamh Naomh Mhuire agus tógadh ceithre seomraí ranga agus seomra foirne. Thosaigh an scoil ag feidhmiú as an ionad sin i Mí Meán Fómhair 1999. Tá 224 páistí ar na rollaí faoi láthair ó na Naíonáin Shóisir go dtí Rang 6.

Gaelscoil Chnoc na Ré was founded in 1996 and was temporarily located in the Presbyterian Hall on Church Street until September 1998 when it moved to prefabricated buildings in the grounds of St. Mary’s GAA in Ballydoogan, Sligo. An extension was built to St. Mary’s premises consisting of four classrooms and staff room and the school commenced operating from there in September 1999. There are currently 224 pupils on roll from Infants up to Rang 6.

Is Gaelscoil, thumoideachais chomhoideachasúil, Chaitliceach í Gaelscoil Chnoc na Ré ina múintear gach ábhar, ach an Bhéarla, trí mheán na Gaeilge. Is í an Ghaeilge teanga chumarsáide na scoile .Tá taithí ag na páistí ar theanga a fhoghlaim go héasca agus tuigeann siad gur féidir teangacha eile a fhoghlaim. Is mó an seans go mbeidh tuiscint agus meas ag na daltaí seo ar dhaoine ó chultúir eile, rud atá tábhachtach agus an tír ag eirí níos ilchultúrtha. Glacaimid gur duine leis fhéin é gach uile pháiste agus déanaimid gach iarracht a chumas a chur i gcrích. Spreagann Gaelscoil Chnoc na Ré rannpháirtíocht na dtuismitheoirí in oideachas a bpáistí agus i saol na scoile.

Gaelscoil Chnoc na Ré is an Irish medium, immersion, coeducational, Catholic school, offering the full Primary Curriculum, with all subjects, apart from English, taught through the medium of Irish. Irish is the living language of communication in our school. Bilingualism opens windows of two cultures. Being bilingual from an early age helps children to learn a third and fourth language when they are a little older. Children experience learning Irish easily and understand that learning other languages is possible. It can promote greater tolerance and respect for other cultures, which is important as Ireland becomes more multicultural. Children from all linguistic and cultural backgrounds are welcome at our school. We recognise that each child is unique and we strive to develop his/her potential. Gaelscoil Chnoc na Ré supports parents active participation in their children’s education and in school life.
