Tá súil agam go bhfuil cúrsaí go maith libh ar fad. Tá deireadh na scolbhliana ag teacht go tapaidh ag an bpointe seo agus is mian liom cuid dena socraithe scoile idir seo agus sin a chur in iúl. I hope all is well with everyone. The end of the school year is fast approaching at this point and I would like to highlight some of the school arrangements between now and then. It has been another challenging year but things seem to be slowly improving and we hope that they will continue in a positive direction. Again, our thanks to everyone for adhering to their new arrangements with patience and understanding – there are better days ahead. We will remain constrained when organising events normally held at this time of year (tours and sports day, for example) and details on these will be sent to you in due course.
Labhairt na Gaeilge
Tá béim mhór ar siúl againn i láthair na huaire chun na páistí a spreagadh le níos mó Gaeilge a úsáid le chéile sa scoil i ndiaidh na dianghlasála. Bheimis buíoch as bhur dtacaíocht agus spreagadh ina leith seo agus dár ndóigh Gaeilge a úsáid taobh amuigh den scoil nuair is féidir.
We are placing great emphasis at the moment on encouraging the children to use more Irish with each other in school following the lockdown. We would appreciate your support and encouragement in this regard and of course use Irish outside of school where possible.
Trialacha Caigdhdeánaithe/ Standardised Tests

Beidh na páistí (ó Rang 1 ar aghaidh) ag déanamh na dtástálacha caighdeánaithe sna seachtainí amach romhainn sa Ghaeilge, i mBéarla, i Mata agus i Litriú. Níl i dtástálacha caighdeánaithe ach ceann amháin den iliomad uirlisí a úsáideann múinteoirí chun an próiseas teagaisc agus foghlama a threorú. Féadfaidh torthaí na dtástálacha a bheith éagsúil ó bhliain go bliain do dhaltaí aonair. Is féidir leis na torthaí cabhrú le múinteoirí réimsí den churaclam agus foghlaim teanga a aithint ina dteastaíonn tacaíocht bhreise ó gach dalta agus tacaíocht níos saincheaptha a sholáthar do dhaltaí aonair. Is dóigh go mbeidh tionchar éagsúil ag dúnadh na scoileanna ar na daltaí. D’fhéadfadh tionchar a bheith aige sin ar leibhéil imní na ndaltaí roimh thástáil nó le linn tástála agus iad ag filleadh ar an bhfoghlaim duine le duine. As you know, schools did not have the opportunity to organise these during the last school year. The children (from Rang 1 up) will be taking the standardised tests in the coming weeks in Gaeilge, English, Maths and Spellings. Standardised tests are just one of many tools teachers use to inform the teaching and learning process. Test results may vary from year to year for individual pupils. The results can help teachers to identify areas of the curriculum and language learning where all pupils need additional support and to provide more bespoke support for individual pupils. It is likely that school closures will have impacted on pupils differently. This may impact on pupils’ anxiety levels in advance of or during testing as they return to face-to-face learning. It may also be reflected in the results for this year. Results of any one standardised test provide a snapshot in time and should not be used in isolation. Assessment is an enabler of effective teaching and learning. This includes regularly evaluating pupils’ work and periodically reporting results to pupils and parents. All forms of assessment, including standardised tests, help teachers to ensure that programmes of learning in literacy and numeracy are tailored to meet the needs of individual pupils/class groups. Schools are advised to use a variety of assessment methods to build a picture over time of a pupil’s learning progress across the curriculum. Standardised testing in literacy (English/Gaeilge) and numeracy is an important method used to complement other assessment tools used by teachers, although not necessarily more important than other assessment types.
Information from standardised testing is important given the vital role of literacy (English/Gaeilge) and numeracy in enabling children to access the full curriculum. Following school closures, this data can help teachers identify areas of success and areas in need of further development. Standardised tests support the benchmarking of individual pupil’s performance against national norms. As schools did not gather data from testing in 2020, data from 2021 will be helpful for decision making about teaching and learning for the coming school year at class and whole-school level. Again, results of any one standardised test provide a snapshot in time and should not be used in isolation. Teachers will communicate the results in the usual way (School report) but may contact parents directly in the case of unexpected or significantly lower results.
Laethanta Saoire
Beidh an scoil dúnta ar an Aoine 4ú agus Luain 7ú Meitheamh don deireadh seachtaine saoire poiblí. Dúnfaimid ar an Aoine 25ú Meitheamh ag 12.00 do laethanta saoire an tsamhraidh. Tá céad lá na bliana nua le socrú fós agus cuirfear sin iúl daoibh a luaithe agus is féidir.
The school will be closed on Friday 4th and Monday 7th June for the public holiday weekend. We will close on Friday 25th June at 12.00 for the summer holidays. The first day of the new year is yet to be decided and you will be notified as soon as possible.

Déanfar na socraithe cuí idir seo agus deireadh na bliana agus cuirfear in iúl daoibh na socraithe maidir le seomraí, ranganna agus múinteoirí roimh dúnadh na scoile ar an 25ú Meitheamh.
Planning will continue between now and the end of the year and you will be notified of the arrangements for classrooms, classes and teachers before the school closes on June 25th.
