We would appreciate it if a number of parents would be willing to lend a hand to a clean-up of the school grounds next Monday August 28th from 6 – 7 p.m. Many hands make light work!

The school office will be open before the children return to facilitate payment of school books and Insurance (a letter and form for Insurance will be posted in August.). Times of opening are: Dé Máirt agus Dé Céadaoin /Tuesday and Wednesday 29th & 30th August: 10 am – 2.00 pm. NB: ALL school book money and Personal Pupil Insurance money is due on or before the first day of school ie. Thursday 31st August 2017 – no late forms can be accepted as children must be insured from FIRST DAY. GRM.

AIRGEAD SCOILE/SCHOOL MONEY:
Is gá go mbeadh aon airgead a chuirtear chun na scoile i gclúdach litreach le do thoil, lena sonraí scríofa air. Muna bhfuil póicíní buí agat, is féidir iad a cheannach ón scoil ar €3.50. Ní féidir linn glacadh le hairgead nach bhfuil i gclúdach.
Any money sent to the school MUST be in an envelope, marked with your child’s name, class and what the money is for. If you do not have a packet of yellow school money envelopes, please send in €3.50 and have your child take home a packet. Alternatively you can recycle any envelope. Money cannot be accepted unless in an envelope.

Please note that a number of children in the school have a severe allergic reaction to peanuts/nuts. This allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock) can occur through ingestion of peanut/nut products, cross contamination and breathing peanuts in the air. Since this condition can be life threatening, we are asking for your help in minimising the risk to these children by:
a) Avoiding giving children peanuts in school lunches
b) Avoiding giving peanut butter sandwiches, as well as other spreads containing nuts such as Nutella
c) Avoiding giving snacks/bars containing nuts or labelled “may contain nut traces” in school lunches
d) Asking children not to share their lunches.
Due to the severity of the problem, it is important that all parents carry out the suggested measures and reduce the risk of allergic reaction to these children.
We have a healthy eating policy in Gaelscoil Chnoc na Ré and for that reason we ask that sweets, crisps, fizzy drinks, buns, muffins, slices of cake, chocolate yogurts or cereal bars NOT be given for lunch.

Toisc laghdú ar líon na bpáistí a bheidh ag tosú linn, ní bheidh ach rang amháin Naíonáin Shóisir againn i mbliana. Is í Múinteoir Lynne a bheidh ag obair leo, le cabhair ó Mhúinteoir Katríona dona himeachtaí AISTEAR. Cuirimid fáilte roimh ár múinteoirí nua, Laura Ann agus Rita, a bhí ag obair linn cheana. Due to a reduction in the number of children starting this year, there will be only one Junior Infant class next year. Múinteoir Lynne will be their class teacher, supported by Múinteoir Katríona for AISTEAR activities. We welcome our new teachers, Laura Ann and Rita, who have worked in the school previously. P.E days will be decided when the children return to school. Therefore children should wear the school uniform on both Thursday 31st and Friday 1st.
NAÍONÁIN SHÓISIR/JUNIOR INFANTS
Rachaidh na Naíonáin Shóisir abhaile ag 12.00 gach lá ar feadh tamaillín ag tús na bliana: 31/8 – 15/9/2017, agus ag 1.30 ó sin ar aghaidh.
Junior Infants will finish at 12.00 each day for the first weeks: 31/8 – 15/9/2017, and thereafter at 1.30pm.
CÚNTÓIR RANGA –NAÍONÁIN (INFANTS)
Beidh seirbhís feidhlíochta ar fáil ó 1.30 do pháistí a úsáideann an seirbhís bus ag 2.30. Má bhíonn spás ann ina dhiaidh sin, glacfar le páistí le siblíní in ardranganna sa chéad dul síos, agus éinne eile ina dhiadh sin. Más maith leat an seirbhís seo a úsáid cuir scéal chugainn – seolfar sonraí chucu siúd a léiríonn suim. Tá costas beag le níoc le seo a fháil.
An After Care Service will be provided from 1.30pm for children in infant classes travelling home on the bus service at 2.30pm. Any spaces available after these children have been catered for will be allocated to children with older siblings in the school and if there is space following that, to children without siblings in senior classes. If you wish to avail of the “Cúntóir Ranga” service, please let Muireann or Mícheál know as soon as possible. There will be a weekly charge for this service as last year, and a letter with more details will be sent to parents who express an interest.

There are two options, as outlined in the form attached:
School Activities Only (€6 per child) or 24 Hour Basis (€9 per child)
The school has the option of receiving a 30% discount for submitting the request online; if you wish to avail of this discount (we cannot automatically keep it) send in the reduced fee (€4.20 or €6.30) – if you are happy for the school to keep the discount towards school funds, please send in the full fee (€6 or €9).
Please send the fee along with the enclosed form, filled in, by August 31st.

Páistí ag fágáil na scoile/Children leaving school premises during school day
Ar mhaithe le hÁrachas, is gá go ndéanfar aon pháiste a bhíonn bailithe i rith uaireanta scoile a shíniú amach. Tá an leabar chuige seo ar fáil san oifig. Ní féidir aon eisceacht a dhéanamh. Ní gá iad a shíniú isteach arís ná i gcás páiste atá déanach is leor nóta ná glaoch gutháin. Freisin, tá sé fíor-thábhactach go mbíonn sonraí teagmhála tuistí againn do gach pháiste sa scoil. Má tá aon chuid athraithe le déanaí, cuir Muireann san oifig ar an eolas faoi láithreach, le bhur dtoil.
For Insurance reasons, any child collected from school within school hours MUST be signed out. A book for this purpose is held in the office. No exceptions please. There is no necessity to sign the child back in to school if they are returning from an appointment or if they are coming in late. A note/phone call to explain delay is sufficient. Also, it is imperative that the school has a contact number of a parent/guardian for each child, which is accessible at all times. If you have changed/updated any of your contact details recently, please let Muireann in the school office know immediately, thank you.
AN CARRCHLÓS/SCHOOL CAR PARK
Ar mhaithe le Sábháilteacht agus riaradh an carrchlóis, bheimis buíoch ach go dtabharfadh tuismitheoirí aird ar na nithe seo a leanas:
To ensure safety at all times in the car-park, we would ask parents to pay careful attention to the following points.
1. Is córas aon-bhealach atá ann – casann tú ar chlé nuair a thagann tú isteach an geata.
A one-way system is in operation. Turn left when you come in the gate.
2. Ná stop in aon áit seachas spás pairceála chun do pháistí a scaoileadh amach; tá stopadh ag an mballa beag ag cur bac ar thrácht agus ar na busanna.
It is not safe to stop anywhere other than in a parking space to let your child(ren) out of the car. Also, stopping at the small wall in front of the school causes a backlog of traffic and prevents buses getting through. Please be considerate of other drivers.
3. Tráthnóna: fág na spásanna taobh leis an gcosán saor dona busanna.
Afternoons – please leave car spaces beside the footpath free for buses. This is very important for the safety of the children boarding buses.
4. Chomh fada agus is féidir, ba choir do pháistí/tuistí an cosán a úsáid.
As far as is possible, please make use of the footpath.
5. Chabhródh sé le plódú ar maidin agus tráthnóna dá mbeadh daoine sásta síobanna a roinnt!
It would be extremely helpful to prevent congestion if “car-pooling” could be arranged among families who live close to one another.
Generally, we urge you to please drive with care and to come in the school gates at a slow speed. Also, you must follow the road around to the left to avoid accidents. Thank you.

Re: School Financing and Operation/Maoiniú agus Feidhmiú na Scoile
Mar is eol daoibh, bíonn maoiniú do scoileanna mar dheacracht i gcónaí agus níl aon eisceacht ann i dtaobh Gaelscoil Chnoc na Ré, ach go háirithe le deontais na Roinne laghdaithe go mór le déanaí. I mbliana, teastaíonn ón mBord Bainistíochta an gannchion airgid i dtaca le costais oibriúcháin na scoile a láimhseáil le ranníocaíocht dheonach. Leanfaidh tuismitheoirí Cairde leo ag eagrú gníomhaíochtaí tiomsaithe airgid a bheidh dírithe ar fhorbairt na scoile ar bhonn leanúnach. Tá rátaí na ranníocaíochta socraithe againn mar a bhí ann anuraidh, se sin:

Níl a bhac ort ranníocaíocht níos airde a íoc más acmhainn duit agus bheimis an-bhuíoch díot as ucht do fhlaithiúlachta agus do thiomantais don scoil. As you are well aware, funding for schools is an annual issue and Gaelscoil Chnoc na Ré is no exception. Department of Education & Skills grant aid has reduced considerably in recent years.This year the Board of Management again seeks to raise the shortfall in school operating costs by way of the voluntary contribution. Cairde fund raising will be dedicated to the continued development of the school. We aim to raise an amount of €9,000 and have decided that voluntary contribution rates for the current year will be retained at last year’s levels ie
Family with one child only €70
Family with two children €100
Family with three or more children €110
While payment may be made from the date of this letter, we are extremely conscious that there are many costs facing each of us we will seek payment in two moieties in equal amounts of €35, €50 or €55 depending on the number of children from your family attending the school. The final dates for payment of each moiety are 29th September 2017 and 1st February 2018. Achieving our target income will require your full support.
We have kept the rates as low as possible, conscious of the current economic conditions. If you are in a position to contribute at a higher rate we would encourage you to do so and will be greatly appreciative of your generosity and commitment to the school. Equally however if your circumstances are such that making a contribution in the amount stated above, is a burden you cannot now meet, please talk to Mícheál. Such discussions will be entirely between you and him and will remain totally confidential to you both. To ensure equity to all parents/guardians it is the Board’s intention to issue reminders where payment is not made and where no communication as described above is made to and agreed with Michéal.
